Ayesha Takia was born on April 10, 1986.She comes from a mixed family. Her father, Nishit, is Gujarati, and her mother, Faridah, is half British and half Maharashtrian, an Anglo-Indian. Takia went to St. Anthony's High School. Her father interacts with her producers and handles her dates. She has a younger sister named Natasha.
At age 15 Takia appeared in Complan campaign alongside Shahid Kapoor and also in a , Falguni Pathak's music video Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye. At sixteen she appeared in the video, Shake It Daddy which got her noticed by the movie industry and a few film offers followed.

On March 1, 2009, Takia married Farhan Azmi, a restaurateur and the son of politician Abu Azmi, a Samajwadi Party leader.The couple had originally planned to marry in December 2008, but the wedding was delayed due to the Mumbai attacks.
